Jesper Bratt is a Swedish professional ice hockey winger who serves as an alternate captain for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League.
Born on July 30, 1998, in Stockholm, Sweden, he shoots left and wears jersey number 63.
Selected by the Devils in the sixth round, 162nd overall, of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Bratt has spent his entire NHL career with the organization since making his debut in the 2017-18 season.
He has also represented Sweden at both junior and senior international levels, including World Championships, the 4 Nations Face-Off, and the Olympics.
Known for his speed, playmaking ability, and consistent production, Bratt has developed into one of the Devils’ core forwards and a key offensive contributor.
Siblings
Jesper has one sibling, a younger brother named Filip Bratt.
Born on May 19, 2002, also in Stockholm, Filip is approximately three years and nine months younger than Jesper.
The brothers grew up together in the Trångsund area near Stockholm and shared a highly competitive yet close relationship that helped shape both of their approaches to the game.
Filip is also a hockey player, primarily a defenseman who shoots right.
He has played for various Swedish clubs including teams in the junior ranks with Trångsunds IF, AIK, and Djurgårdens IF, as well as in HockeyAllsvenskan and HockeyEttan.
In 2022 he attended the New Jersey Devils’ development camp and appeared in three games for the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL.
More recently he has continued his career in Sweden and later moved to play in France’s Ligue Magnus with Cergy-Pontoise.
Career
Bratt began playing hockey at a young age with the local Trångsunds IF club and progressed through Swedish junior ranks before joining AIK.
He played in HockeyAllsvenskan with AIK, recording solid production as a teenager against men.
After being drafted by New Jersey in 2016, he signed a three-year entry-level contract in May 2017.

Expected to spend time with the London Knights of the OHL, he instead impressed enough in training camp to make the Devils’ opening-night roster for the 2017-18 season, becoming one of the lowest-drafted teenagers to debut in the NHL in recent decades.
In his debut on October 7, 2017, against the Colorado Avalanche, he scored his first NHL goal and added an assist.
He finished his rookie season with 35 points in 74 games.
Over subsequent seasons he steadily improved, overcoming early challenges such as a fractured jaw that limited him in 2018-19.
By the early 2020s he had established himself as a top-line contributor, posting multiple 70-plus point seasons.
Notable campaigns include 73 points in 2021-22 and 2022-23, 83 points in 2023-24, a career-high 88 points (including a franchise-record 67 assists) in 2024-25, and 71 points in 2025-26.
He recorded his first NHL hat trick in March 2023.
Bratt signed an eight-year, $63 million contract extension with the Devils in June 2023.
In September 2026 he was named an alternate captain.
Through the end of the 2025-26 season he had played 634 regular-season NHL games, accumulating 172 goals and 346 assists for 518 points.
He has also appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and represented Sweden internationally on multiple occasions.
Accolades
Bratt’s honors include selection to the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, where he replaced injured teammate Jack Hughes.
He has been nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy by the New Jersey chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, recognizing qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the game, particularly in light of his consistent development from a late-round draft pick into a high-scoring forward.
Internationally he earned a silver medal with Sweden at the 2016 World Under-18 Championship and has competed at senior events including the World Championship, the 4 Nations Face-Off (where Sweden finished third in 2025), and the Olympics.
He has set franchise marks with the Devils, most notably the single-season assists record, and has been recognized for his leadership and work ethic within the organization.
