Detectives in Mombasa are investigating a suspected family killing in Shauri Yako Village, Mkomani, Nyali Sub-County, where a man allegedly killed his wife and their young child following a reported domestic conflict.
Police said the incident occurred on Friday, September 25, 2026.
It left neighbors shocked.
The suspect allegedly attacked his family, killing his wife and one of their children.
Police were informed that after the alleged killings, the man placed the child’s body inside a pit latrine.
He reportedly attempted to dispose of his wife’s body in the same pit but was unable to do so because of its weight.
A 14-year-old child, a Grade 9 student at Pentrose School, reportedly escaped from the scene despite sustaining injuries during the incident.
A Good Samaritan came to the injured boy’s aid and rushed him to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
The man later presented himself at Nyali Police Station, where he was taken into custody as investigations into the incident began.
Police officers recovered the bodies of the deceased and moved them to the Coast General mortuary pending postmortems and further investigations.
The Good Samaritan who rescued the injured child also reported the incident to Nyali Police Station, where a report was made.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged killings, including the reported family disputes preceding the incident.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The motive was not immediately known.
