Abdullah Shafique is a Pakistani international cricketer born on 20 November 1999 in Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan.
A right-handed top-order batsman and occasional right-arm off-break bowler, he represents the Pakistan national team across formats and plays for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.
Raised in a cricket-oriented Punjabi Muslim Gujjar family, he began shadow practice with a plastic bat at the age of three under the guidance of his father.
His early training took place at the Aamir Waseem International Cricket Academy in Sialkot, and he later represented Pakistan at under-19 level.
Outside cricket he enjoys music, singing, and playing the guitar, with some of his song covers gaining popularity online.
Siblings
Abdullah is the eldest of three children.
He has one brother, Hassan Shafique, and one sister named Zainab.
Details about his siblings’ personal and professional lives remain largely private, as the family has kept a low public profile beyond cricket.
Their father, Shafiq Ahmed, a former first-class cricketer who later became a long-time coach at GEMS Modern Academy in Dubai, has spoken of Abdullah as the eldest of his three children.
Career
Shafique was acquired by Multan Sultans in the 2018 Pakistan Super League draft but did not feature that season.
He made his first-class debut for Central Punjab in the 2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, scoring 133 runs, and followed it with an unbeaten 102 on his Twenty20 debut in the 2020-21 National T20 Cup, becoming the first Pakistani batsman to score centuries on both his first-class and T20 debuts.

He later played for Balochistan and established himself with Lahore Qalandars, contributing to their consecutive PSL titles in 2022 and 2023.
Internationally he debuted in T20Is against Zimbabwe on 10 November 2020, scoring 41 not out.
His Test debut came against Bangladesh on 26 November 2021 in Chattogram, where he scored half-centuries in both innings.
He made his ODI debut against the Netherlands on 21 August 2022.
Shafique quickly became a regular opener in Test cricket, notably scoring his maiden Test century of 136 against Australia in 2022 and accumulating strong series totals thereafter.
Key performances include an unbeaten 160 in the fourth innings against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2022 to help chase a large target, a double century of 201 against Sri Lanka in 2023, and a century of 113 on his ODI World Cup debut against Sri Lanka in 2023 that anchored a record successful chase.
He has also featured for Yorkshire in English domestic cricket.
Across formats he has compiled substantial run tallies, with multiple Test centuries and consistent contributions in limited-overs cricket, though form has fluctuated at times in recent seasons.

Shafique is the first Pakistani batsman to score centuries on both first-class and T20 debuts.
In 2022 he earned recognition as Cricket World Player of the Week following his match-winning unbeaten 160 against Sri Lanka.
He became one of the youngest Pakistanis to score a Test double century with 201 against Sri Lanka in 2023 and the first Pakistani to score a century on ODI World Cup debut with 113 against Sri Lanka the same year, contributing to the highest successful run chase in World Cup history at the time.
He has won two consecutive Pakistan Super League titles with Lahore Qalandars in 2022 and 2023.
Additional milestones include multiple Player of the Match awards in Tests and recognition for classical technique and temperament as an opener.
