It has emerged that Uber eats, an American online food ordering and delivery platform with subsidiaries in Kenya, is defrauding their drivers of their guaranteed income.

It is worth noting that Uber eats riders use the Uber driver application.

According to one of the drivers who spoke to Kahawa Tungu, Uber eats have secretly programed their system to auto log them (drivers) out so that they can’t log in till the next day. Worse still, their accumulated promotion hours disappear when the drivers are able to log in next day.

“My problem is that they have secretly programed their system to auto log you out and you can’t log in till the next day. This conveniently happens after Uber green light office hours, and weekends,” explains the driver who spoke to us on condition of anonymity.

The business is down and to keep riders available, they have a promotion running where they(Uber eats) guarantees an hourly income of Ksh140 to riders online from 10.00am-10.00pm. However, as our source intimates, the income sublimes to the thin air upon launching a complaint, consequently locking the accounts of the complainants.

On Sunday morning, Uber eats riders woke up to locked apps, without prior notice to the riders. Endless to point out that again conveniently, the Uber office is closed till Monday so the riders who wanted to work during the weekend were locked out.

Recently, the mother company, Uber, was hard hit by a strike from its drivers who complained against taxi hailing app companies for allegedly defrauding them. The situation was calmed down by an MOU signed between the drivers and all taxi app companies.
