Harry Tom Tector is an Irish professional cricketer born on 6 December 1999 in Dublin.

He has become one of the mainstays of the Ireland national team across Test, One-Day International and Twenty20 International cricket.

Tector comes from a strongly sporting family whose connections to cricket and other Irish sports run deep, and he has established himself as a reliable performer particularly in the 50-over format, where his batting average has often hovered near or above the mid-40s.

    Siblings

Harry is one of four siblings, all of whom have been involved in cricket.

His elder brother is Jack Bill Tector, born on 2 September 1996, a right-handed batsman and occasional off-spinner who captained Ireland at the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh and has played extensively in domestic cricket for Leinster Lightning and Munster Reds.

Jack made his first-class, List A and Twenty20 debuts in the Inter-Provincial competitions and has also featured for Ireland Wolves and Ireland A sides, though he has focused more on domestic cricket in recent years while pursuing other professional interests.

His younger brother is Tim Tector, who has followed the family path into international cricket.

Tim captained Ireland at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup and has gone on to play for the senior Ireland side, particularly in T20 Internationals, where he has opened the batting.

The youngest sibling is their sister Alice Tector, born in August 2005.

An all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium-fast, Alice has broken into the Ireland women’s team, making her international debut in 2024 against Sri Lanka.

She has played domestic cricket for Phoenix and Typhoons.

The three brothers hold a unique distinction: each captained Ireland at successive Under-19 Cricket World Cups (Jack in 2016, Harry in 2018 and Tim in 2022).

Their father, Heatley Tector, played club cricket, and the family has long been associated with YMCA Cricket Club in Dublin.

    Career

Harry first represented Ireland at youth level and was part of the squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

He was named captain of the Ireland Under-19 side for the 2018 tournament, where he was the leading wicket-taker for his team with eight wickets and was recognised by the ICC as the rising star of the squad.

Domestically he began with Munster Reds in 2017 before moving to Northern Knights (2018–2021), where he made his first-class and List A debuts and later captained the side.

Since 2022 he has played for Leinster Lightning.

Harry has also gained experience in franchise cricket, appearing for Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League, Lumbini All Stars, Gloucestershire in English domestic cricket, Sylhet Strikers, and more recently Dublin Guardians.

He made his senior international debut in a T20 International against Scotland on 17 September 2019.

His ODI debut followed against England on 30 July 2020, and he played his first Test against Bangladesh on 4 April 2023, scoring a half-century in his maiden Test innings and becoming the first Irish player to do so on Test debut.

Tector has become a regular across all formats.

In ODIs he has been particularly consistent, scoring multiple centuries (including against New Zealand) and compiling a strong average that places him among Ireland’s leading batsmen.

In T20Is he has contributed useful middle-order runs and has featured in World Cup squads, including the 2022 and 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cups.

By 2026 he had played numerous Tests, more than 50 ODIs and around 100 T20Is, amassing substantial runs especially in the one-day game.

    Accolades

Harry was named Male Academy Player of the Year at the Cricket Ireland Awards in 2018.

In May 2023 he became the first Irish player to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

He has also been recognised as Men’s International Player of the Year by Cricket Ireland (noted for performances around 2023–2024).
