Baringo Senator Gideon Moi should step out of his father’s shadow – Retired President Daniel Moi – if he is to take on the likes of Deputy President William Ruto come 2022, former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has said.

Midiwo who was speaking on NTV’s AM Live said that it was unfortunate that the legislator was being forced into leadership yet he cannot pull crowds beyond the Baringo county.

“It is unfortunate that trying to make Gideon a leader is like forcing him to drink milk yet he wants to imbibe something else. The scenario is similar to attempting to make a cow which only wants to graze in the homestead to get out to the wild, it will not,” Midiwo said.

In fact the former minority leader in the National Assembly noted that Gideon is too lazy a person to establish himself and is only capitalizing on work already done by his father, Moi.

“People are out here fighting for political power. Come out and stop seeking political mileage by sitting around your father because you are a grown man. The picture you are showing is not pleasant at all,” he challenged the Senator.

In April, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen during a thanksgiving ceremony in Bureti Constituency, Kericho County, openly told Gideon that the rift valley people would not vote for him simply because he is Moi’s son.

“There are those who have not built even a toilet, but when asked they say my father did it. We are not voting for your dad…” he said.

On Saturday President Uhuru Kenyatta paid the retired head of state a courtesy call and is said to have held private talks with him and Gideon.

Many have said that the visit could mean that Uhuru will back the legislator’s presidential bid, shortchanging Ruto who is keen on taking over after him.
