Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi has been sentenced to 4 years in jail or an alternative fine of 1 million shillings for assaulting two Police Officers, Dennis Nambisia and Agapio Ndwiga, in April 2017.

Chief Magistrate Evans Makori found the legislator guilty of assaulting two police officers during the ODM primaries in Mombasa County and failing to stop his supporters from storming the poll locations to cause disruption.

“It is clear the accused failed to restrain or stop his supporters from disrupting the polls therefore he is deemed to have participated in the fracas,” he said.

“Having carefully considered the evidence by the prosecution, I find the accused guilty as charged.” he added.

The attacked officers had been on duty at the poll location and medical reports from meedical officials showed that they had been seriously injured.

Meanwhile, Sirisia MP, John Waluke and former Vice President, Moody Awori’s sister, Grace Wakhungu  were arrested by EACC and charged in Milimani court for forgery and fraudulent acquisition of KSh297 Million in a case involving the National Cereals and Produce Board.

Mr Waluke denied the charges and requested the court to allow him bail since he had cooperated with the court and appeared for the trials. Ms Wakhungu failed to show up and the lawyer excused her as she was sick.

Waluke was released on a bond of KSh5 Million or a KSh2 Million cash bail.
