Hubert Nakitare alias Nonini has resigned as chairman for Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) effective August 8, 2018.
The “Wee Kamu” hitmaker cites the Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP) board and that of PRISK of not having the best interest of music artists at heart.
“I cannot continue serving the PRISK board as chairman, on a board where politics of not collecting royalty in line with KECOBO directives is more important that the future of the Kenyan music industry collecting royalty jointly,” Nonini, who was appointed to the post in April said.
In his resignation letter, the seasoned genge artist said that KAMP and PRISK have been illegally collecting royalties despite his objections.
In fact he says, the two bodies have been leaving out Music Publishers Association of Kenya (MPAKE) which is a blatant disregard of the law.
Nonini also claims that 40 per cent of the bodies’ invoice books are fraudulent and unaccounted for from the manual collections, which he clearly indicates that he is opposed to.
He also claims that he called for a board meeting on August 8 to vote whether to continue with the KAMP-PRISK collection excluding MPAKE where 4 out of the six directors voted for the illegal collection method.
The four are; Daddy Owen, Irene Kariuki, Beatrice Achieng’ and Ian Mbugua.

The King of Genge does however divulge that David Mathenge alias Nameless abstained from voting while Samuel Kuria aka SK Blue was absent.
Nonini maintains that he will continue to serve as PRISK director until his term comes to an end.
