Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has moved to Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold election of Governor Martin Nyaga Wambora.

On August 17, the Court of Appeal overturned High Court’s decision to nullify Martin Wambora’s re-election as Embu governor, saying that the irregularities cited by the opponent Lenny Kivuti could not be attributable to him.

In February, the High Court sitting in Embu nullified Mr Wambora’s poll win citing massive irregularities that it said compromised the integrity of the process.

Justice William Musyoka had said the vote recount and scrutiny, which he ordered in January, unearthed various irregularities that cast doubts on the outcome of the August 8 governor’s contest.

Mr Wambora became the first governor to be impeached when, in 2014, he faced twin impeachments following a fallout with county politicians.

The impeachments were however overturned by the court.
