Deputy President William Ruto has hit out at his competitors following the recent Ipsos Synovate poll that ranked him the most corrupt leader, closely followed by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
The “hustler” wants his opponents to discuss development issues instead of the “Monday to Sunday fake news.”
“When my competitors are through with (mon-sun) sponsored headlines, paid opinion polls & fake news they are welcome to the real contest based on real mwananchi issues SGR, roads, connecting people to electricity, equipping our hospital & Tivets and matters water. Nawangojea huko,” he said on Twitter.
Through his Press Secretary David Mugonyi, Ruto on Wednesday termed the Ipsos survey as “distorted opinions in a libellous crusade by shadowy sponsors.”
“At a time when people are so desperate that they want to amend the constitution to bar DP from running for presidency, it should not shock anyone that a survey like this would be concocted,” the statement read in part.
On Thursday, both the DP and Waiguru dismissed the survey saying that it was the work of their political enemies.
“The whole of this story about constant, perennial unending headlines about William Ruto this, William Ruto that is sponsored by our competitors because they cannot match our development record,” the DP said.
On her part, Ms Waiguru said: “An arrow that is sent at night is sent by the same way it came. They will bring in politics and they will all us names but that will not affect us.”
