Shot former Garissa county finance minister Idriss Mukhtar’s family is said to have met with Governor Ali Korane’s family on Sunday to discuss compensation for the latter.
The two sides met to discuss Maslaha, pay for the victim’s family by the murderer’s family according to the Muslim religion.
Korane was arrested on August 28 in connection to the attempted murder of Idriss who was shot three times in the head and is still in a coma at the Nairobi Hospital.
The governor has since denied having anything to do with the attempted murder but Idriss’ father, Dr Aden Mukhtar has said that his son had information showing that the county boss’ academic papers are fake.
Korane has insisted that he became a person of interest because of propaganda. In fact, he maintains, he was not arrested but was only “questioned for 39 minutes only.”
“He questioned the academic qualifications of Governor Ali Korane. That is why some people wanted him dead,” Dr Mukhtar insisted.
He also said that his son received death threats and at some point the callers demanded for money in exchange for information about a plot to take him out.
“He said the callers told him that they had all the details about him and were monitoring his movements. They told him they knew where he spent his time, where he prayed, adding that they had been sent by a ‘big man’ from Garissa to eliminate him,” Dr Mukhtar said.
The Mukhtar’s are also reading foul play into the death of the hitman, David Mwai while in custody.

A woman, Mr Korane’s bodyguard and the governor’s cousin are still being held at different police stations in connection with the shooting which took place in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area.
