At least 50 people have lost their lives in a deadly crash along the Londiani-Muhoroni Highway.

The bus in the crash was traveling to Kisumu from Nairobi.

Confirming the accident was Kericho County Police Commander James Mogera who noted that it took place at Fort Ternan.

Witnesses say that the 67 seater bus lost control while going down a steep slope then hit a guard rail, rolled and plunged down about 20 metres.

The Nation reports that among those who lost their lives in the 5 am accident were children under the age of five.

Police believe there are still more bodies trapped in the wreckage.

The injured have been rushed to Fort Ternan dispensary and Muhoroni Sub County Hospital for treatment.
