Kenya’s Harambee Stars held Walia Ibex of Ethiopia to a barren draw in the Afcon 2019 Group F qualifier played at Bahir Dar Stadium, Ethiopia Wednesday.

The point gained takes Stars’s tally to four atop of the group ahead of the return match Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi.

The game of two halves saw the visitors create better scoring chances in the opening half with Michael Olunga and Ovella Ochieng’ hitting the target.

But the second stanza belonged to the hosts who terrorized the Stars’ defense to no avail as Musa Mohammed and Brian Mandela stood tall to deny Shemeless Bekele twice.

Ethiopia travel to Kenya for the return leg Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium.

With Sierra Lone, the other member of the group banned by FIFA, a win for Stars Sunday will be enough to see them through to the 2019 Afcon slated for Cameroon.

Kenya was last at the Afcon 14 years ago in Tunisia for the 2014 edition.
