Tanzanian President John Magufuli has given Taifa Stars Ksh2.2 million to aid their final away trip to Lesotho in the Afcon 2019 qualifiers in November.
Magufuli hosted the team at the State House in the capital Dar Es Salaam Friday following their recent 2-0 win over Cape Verde in the qualifiers.
The important victory revived their hopes of qualifying for 2019 showpiece in Cameroon since their last appearance at the continental stage 39 years ago.
“The money should strictly be used on those who will be traveling to Lesotho and not joyriders,” the head of state stressed.
Cape Verde got the better of the Stars in the initial encounter played in Praia, hammering them 3-0, a result that did not go down well with Magufuli.
“I love sports but I’m not a supporter of any team in Tanzania.

I don’t like being defeated and it’s shameful that 50 million people cannot win the Africa Cup of Nations.
When you were scored 3 goals, I lost hope and when you scored two goals, I wasn’t happy because you still owe one,” the tough talking president said.
Tanzania are second in Group L of the qualifiers on five points – five off leaders Uganda whom they host in the last round fixtures next year March.
