COLONIALISM: Samsung Has a Special Passport Control Desk at a Zambian Airport

A journalist traveled to Zambia. Simnikiwe Mzekandaba, an editorial assistant at IT Web, was entering the country as a team of journalist invited by Samsung. What the journalist witnessed is not what he expected even though the South Korean company has made lots of investment in Africa.

Samsung is not the only company that is making significant investment in the continent but it is the only company which has its special passport control desk at an African country’s international airport. Even during 2012 version of Samsung Africa Forum (the biggest Samsung event), there was no special passport control desk at any airport in South Africa.

But in Zambia, it exists. There is a passport control desk for Samsung staff and visitors only. That is how far colonialists can go. They don’t want to feel part of the bigger African community but they seem themselves as above all the rest.
