The National Police Service (NPS) has summoned directors of 107 company directors in connection to stalled Arror and Kimwarer multi-purpose dams valued at Ksh63 billion.

The construction of the dams was supposed to start in December 2017, but has since stalled. The dams in Elgeyo Marakwet County ware purposed for production of hydro-electricity and irrigation within the said region  to mitigate perennial challenges of drought, boost food production and increase electricity megawatts to the national grid.

“The under-listed companies and their directors are believed to be connected with or have information which will assist in ongoing investigations into fraudulent construction of both Arror and Kimwarer multi-purpose dams,” said the NPS in a statement.

Police believe that the companies were paid to offer various services, hence the directors should appear with quotations, invoices, delivery notes and other relevant documents.

Construction of the dams was meant to take up 10,000 acres and displace about 1,000 families. However, the exercise is said to have been slowed down by cartels who sought to share a cake of the funds meant for compensation.
