Leading converged communications provider Internet Solutions (IS) Kenya today, sought to educate the public on the importance of deploying strong and dependable ICT infrastructure and secure planning in order to protect businesses against losses brought on by natural disasters, catastrophic events or sabotage. This was done during a breakfast seminar held at The Norfolk Hotel to discuss Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning which was officiated by PS Ministry of Information and Communication Dr. Bitange Ndemo and Internet Solutions, Director of Sales E.A, Mr. Loren Bosch.

    Business continuity and disaster recovery

IS Kenya has been at the fore front of championing for implementation of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery) planning processes that would help organizations prepare for disruptive events and malicious sabotage.

Speaking during the seminar Mr. Bosch pointed that it would be imperative for businesses to make such considerations especially if they want to compete on a global level keeping in mind the coming together of the EAC “It is vital for companies to realize that even as we celebrate the fast development of the ICT industry, there are so many considerations to be made in terms of data security and information management. Businesses therefore have to keep up with the times and ensure that they are able to meet their clients’ demands regardless of what is going on in their environment.”

Dr. Ndemo reiterated the government’s position by reinforcing Mr. Bosch’s sentiments saying “We as the government are keen on seeing these processes implemented even in our operations. We have had unfortunate incidences that have seen our steady economic growth dealt a defying blow and consequently it would take us a lot of time to recuperate, accumulating a lot of losses in the process. If we implement these ICT plans we are able to quickly get back on our feet and cushioning the negative effect on the growth of our businesses and the economy in general.”

This seminar is part of a quarterly series of informative forums organized by IS Kenya to educate the public, over the past few months. The last two seminars that were held in March and May on MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) and Internet Security respectively. The next event which will be held later on in the year will aim to demystify cloud computing.
