A former street urchin whose story went viral on the interwebs, has died

Patrick Hinga who had for the longest time roamed the streets of Wangige market, was rescued by a former classmate, Faith Ng’ang’a in 2017.

Ms Ng’ang’a announced his passing on social media saying that he died on Sunday morning but the cause still unknown.

“With deep sorrow I want to inform you that Hinga has rested. He passed on this morning. I don’t have the strength to say much right now. R.I.P my friend,” she said on social media.

In another post, she notes that the deceased complained of a severe stomachache on Thursday. The situation worsened on Saturday when he was rushed to the hospital.

“According to the mother, Hinga was doing fine n he did his best to remain the man we all helped him to be. On Thursday the 14th, Hinga left home and went to visit his friends in Kayole, upon reaching there he called his mom and complained of a stomach-ache though not serious, he spent the night there and said he will be ok. On Saturday late night the problem persisted n that’s when he decided to go to the hospital but by the time the mother got to him early morning yesterday, he had already passed on,” she said in another post.

She helped get the deceased into a rehabilitation centre where he overcame his drug addiction.

Funeral arrangements are underway for the 35 year old man who attended Ndararua Primary School in Kabete and later Uthiru High School.

“We are still trying to come to terms with it n make funeral arrangements. I will update you when, where n how he will be buried. Thank you for your continued support. I need you more than ever before for this one last time,” she added.
