Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has banned Matatus from parking on Tom Mboya street in the Nairobi central Business district.

The director of parking  said that all matatus plying the same route would park at a designated terminus as opposed to along Tom Mboya street as that was not designated for tt purpose.

The allotment letters allocated to various saccos have also been cancelled.  The  directive also said that only two matatus per sacco would be allowed in the bus terminus.

“All matatu Saccos are advised to have alternative sites as holding grounds. All allotment letters given to individual matatu saccos stand cancelled,” Tom Tinega said.

Last week more than 100 matatus were impounded by county askaris for parking in undesignated areas.

Read:”All matatu saccos are advised to have alternative sites as holding grounds. All allotment letters given to individual matatu saccos stand cancelled,” he added.

Tinega said that the traffic snarl ups experienced in Nairobi CBD was as a result of Matatus dropping and picking passengers in undesignated parking spaces.

Last year the ban prohibiting the public service vehicles from entering the CBD was lifted after Kenyans complained of walking long distances. The plot was dismissed as it also laced proper planning.

Kenyans on twitter were angered by the statement by the Nairobi Governor that the long walks to the Central Business District would make them fit.
