    Nairobi Hospitals Put On High Alert Over Cholera Outbreak

    Nairobi county Health department has alerted referral hospitals of a cholera outbreak confirmed on Thursday.

    Lucia Koyio, county health director on Friday directed referral hospitals to reactivate their treatment units to prevent further spread of the disease.

    “In this regard, I am requesting all referral hospitals to reactivate their cholera treatment units to prevent the spread of the disease,” a statement read in part.

    Ms Koyio also directed all subcounties to be on high alert and treat all suspected cases as cholera cases.

    She also asked the subcounties to reactivate their response teams.

    The county faced a major cholera outbreak in 2017 prompting the county government to call for closure of roadside food eateries and food vendors.

    A UN report indicated that at least 18 million Kenyans lack access to clean water.
