A Murang’a court clerk was on Friday night lynched by angry villagers after he refused to have his son buried on family land.

Stanley Mureithi Muriuki of Gitumbi Village, Kirinyaga County was set on fire by the villagers who were making funeral arrangements.

Witnesses say that the deceased was in a heated exchange with the villagers who insisted on their way.

According to others, Muriuki disliked his son who has only been identified as Kelly.

Kelly committed suicide for reasons yet to be established.

“The child who [killed] himself was the first wife’s. Residents knew he hated his son so when he told them he would not permit his burial on the land, they went berserk,” Jennifer Njoki told reporters.

He had allegedly threatened to exhume his son’s body should he be laid to rest in his land.

His house too was set ablaze.

His remains have since been transferred to Kerugoya Level Five Hospital mortuary.
