Victor Wanyama become just the second East African to grace the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

He followed in the footsteps of his elder brother McDonald Mariga who went all the way with Inter Milan in 2013.

The Harambee Stars skipper was on the starting sheet for Tottenham Hotspur against Ajax Amsterdam in a match they lost 1-0 at home.

His performance of the night however left a lot to be desired hence attracting a barrage of criticism especially on social where he where he was a trending topic on Twitter.

Former Netherlands captain turn BeIn Sports pundit Ruud Gullit was more brutal with the Lion Muthurwa’s show as well as a couple of other Spurs stars.

‘They (Ajax) were under pressure but even under pressure they could hold their defence. They didn’t give away a chance.

‘But, for me, a lot of players were disappointing because I see them every week in the Premier League.

‘Dele Alli, oh my god, technically wise so bad. (Victor) Wanyama, my god, technically wise, (Danny) Rose too.

‘Like I said I see them every week and how is it possible to make so many mistakes? I know you’re under pressure but you need to know what to do and they didn’t.’

Wanyama is back to full fitness after close to two seasons battling a nagging knee injury which resulted in a surgery.

He has managed to give a good account of himself in the past few games he has played especially in the league.
