Kenyan born Win Gikonyo has pleaded insanity in a case where she has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Gikonyo, 26, is said to have crashed her Hyundai Elantra into a Toyota Prius belonging to Marianne Burton.

Burton, 60, who was delivering pizza at the time of the crash died on the spot.

The accused person who has since apologized to the bereaved family was earlier on in the month diagnosed with “unspecified schizophrenia spectrum or other psychotic disorder”.

“I just want to tell you how sorry I am,” it read in part. “… Please know it was an accident,” read a letter to Burton’s family.

Medics found that she was a low risk to re-offend or exhibit dangerous behavior.

Gikonyo claimed that she was suffering from hallucinations but after the crash, blood tests showed that she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Before hitting the deceased’s car, it was found that she drove more than 100 miles per hour and tried to pass two cars.

Charging papers inducate that the Kenyan at various points hissed, spat and pretended to be dead right after the crash.

“She was suffering from hallucinations and is not legally responsible for her actions at the time,” her attorney Michael Stewart said.

Burton’s children said that the accused person stole their mother from them and doubt her insanity claims.

The presiding judge ordered that she is held without bail pending a hearing to discuss possible mental treatment options.

Gikonyo had in the past been hospitalized for mental issues but had stopped taking her medication.
