Adrian Smith is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter, best known as a longstanding member of the iconic heavy metal band Iron Maiden.
Born Adrian Frederick Smith on February 27, 1957, in Hackney, London, he grew up in the Clapton area.
His father worked as a painter and decorator from Homerton.
Smith developed his passion for music early on, influenced by his childhood friend and future bandmate Dave Murray.

He began playing guitar as a teenager, initially using an old Spanish guitar that belonged to his brother before acquiring another instrument affordably from Murray.
Career
Smith’s career spans several decades and includes multiple phases.
He started in the 1970s by co-founding the band Urchin (initially known as Evil Ways) with Dave Murray, where he gained early experience as a guitarist and performer.
In October 1980, he joined Iron Maiden, replacing guitarist Dennis Stratton, just as the band was rising to prominence.

He rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999 alongside Dickinson, revitalizing the band’s lineup for albums like Brave New World onward.

Throughout his tenure with Iron Maiden, Smith has earned widespread acclaim for his melodic guitar style, harmonized leads with Dave Murray, and songwriting contributions that helped define the band’s epic sound.
