Former Kenyan Premier League giants AFC leopards have announced that they have appointed Nikola Kavazovic as their new coach on a two-year-deal.

The Serbian gaffer succeeds Argentine Rodolfo Zapata who was fired at the end of the 2018 KPL season for poor performance.

“AFC leopards are delighted to announce that Nikola Kavazovic has been appointed as the club’s new coach on a two-year-contract,” the club posted on their Facebook page Saturday.

“The 43-year-old Serb takes over from Rodolfo Zapata who guided Leopards to finishing 7th in the SportPesa Premier League,” they added.

Nikola is the immediate former Township Rollers coach who resigned on 16 October 2018 after guiding them to two Botswana Premier League titles.

He also qualified the “Popapopa” to the 2018 Caf Champions League group stage for the first time in the history of Botswana club football.

Midfielder in his hey days, Nikola previously coached Istiqlol Dushnbe of Tajikistan, the Tajikistan national team as well as the Sri Lanka national team among others.

He holds UEFA A and Pro coaching budges from Bosnia and Hercegovina.

Interestingly, Zapata will be his replacement at Township Rollers. The former Gaborone gaffer arrives in Botswana Sunday to seal the move.

Nikola is the fifth Leopards coach this year after Stewart Hall, Robert Matano, Dennis Kitambi and Zapata.

His immediate task will be to prepare the team for the KPL 2018-19 season which begins early December.

Leopards are yet to win the KPL title in 21 years and are under immense pressure to break the jinx and catch up with their arch rivals who recently celebrated a record 17th title to widen the gap between them to five titles.
