It is a tradition almost world over that when a team wins the league before a season ends then the next opponent they face mounts them a guard of honour.

Having beaten their closest rivals in the Kenyan Premier League title race Sofapaka 2-0 on Sunday in Kisumu, Gor Mahia are at least a win away from defending their throne.

If  K’Ogalo win their next fixture against Nzoia Sugar on Wednesday and Bandari FC fail to beat Tusker then they (K’Ogalo) will be officially crowned champions with four matches to spare ahead of the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday.

Leopards will therefore be expected to mount a guard of honour for their bitter rivals who have dominated them in the past few seasons.

Teams that have done this before for Gor Mahia includes Western Stima and Ulinzi Stars.

Other rival teams usually refuse this tradition. Rangers of Scotland, for example, refused to give their arch rivals Celtic a guard of honour on Sunday.

Below is the current KPL table standings.
