Afshan Noor Azad-Kazi is a British actress, model, and media personality of Bangladeshi descent.
Best known for her role as Padma Patil in the Harry Potter film series, Azad’s journey into acting began unexpectedly when casting agents visited her school, Whalley Range High School, leading to her debut in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005.
Raised in a conservative Muslim family, she pursued her education alongside her acting career, studying AS-levels in chemistry, biology, English, and business studies at Xaverian College in Rusholme.
She later graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Design from the University of Salford.
Beyond acting, Azad has established herself as a beauty influencer, YouTuber, and model, engaging with a significant online following.
Siblings
Afshan grew up with three brothers, though only one, Ashraf Azad, has been prominently mentioned in public records due to a significant incident in 2010.
Ashraf, born around 1982, was involved in a widely reported assault on Afshan stemming from familial disapproval of her relationship with a Hindu man.
The incident, which occurred on May 21, 2010, at their family home in Longsight, Manchester, involved Ashraf physically attacking Afshan, dragging her by her hair, punching her, and briefly strangling her, while verbally abusing her.
Both Ashraf and their father, Abul Azad, were initially charged with threatening to kill her, though these charges were later dropped.

Ashraf pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to six months in prison on January 21, 2011.
Despite the severity of the attack, Afshan requested leniency for her brother, expressing reluctance to see her family members imprisoned.
Career
Azad’s acting career is most notably defined by her portrayal of Padma Patil, a Ravenclaw student and twin sister to Parvati Patil, in five Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011).
Her role, though not central, earned her recognition within the franchise’s global fanbase, and she also lent her voice to the character in the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Azad’s entry into the series was serendipitous; she auditioned “just for fun” when casting agents scouted her school, having been a fan of the Harry Potter books prior to her casting.
After the Harry Potter series concluded, Azad stepped back from acting, with her only subsequent screen appearance being a guest presenter role on the CBBC series Marrying Mum & Dad in 2017 alongside Ed Petrie.
She has since pivoted to a career in media and modeling, working as a business developer at Key Media Eleven in 2011, a quality controller at AKA Creative Ltd, and a creative director at Desser and Company Limited in Manchester starting in 2015.
As a social media influencer, she runs a YouTube channel with over 31,000 subscribers, where her Harry Potter Q&A video has garnered over a million views, and collaborates with brands as a model represented by BMA Models.
