Alexander David Bregman, commonly known as Alex Bregman or “A-Breg,” is an American professional baseball third baseman currently playing for the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Born on March 30, 1994, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs approximately 190 pounds.
A right-handed batter and thrower, Bregman has earned a reputation as a highly skilled, clutch performer with strong defensive abilities, plate discipline, and leadership qualities.
Siblings
Alex is the oldest of three children born to parents Sam Bregman and Jackie Bregman.
He has two younger siblings, a sister named Jessica and a brother named Anthony, affectionately known as A.J.
His brother A.J., a left-handed pitcher, was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 35th round of the 2018 MLB Draft and committed to play college baseball at the University of New Mexico.
Jessica has largely stayed out of the professional sports spotlight but remains an integral part of the tight family unit.
Both siblings, along with Alex, were raised in the Jewish faith; their mother converted to Judaism from Catholicism, while their father is Jewish with Russian-Jewish immigrant roots on his paternal side.

Career
Bregman grew up in Albuquerque, where he attended Albuquerque Academy and excelled in baseball from a young age.
As a high school sophomore, he became the first high school player to win the USA Baseball Player of the Year Award.
He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 29th round in 2012 but did not sign, instead choosing to attend Louisiana State University (LSU), where he starred as a shortstop and helped the Tigers win the College World Series in 2015.
That same year, the Houston Astros selected him with the second overall pick in the MLB Draft.
Bregman made his MLB debut with the Astros on July 25, 2016, and quickly became a cornerstone of the franchise.
He spent nine seasons in Houston (2016–2024), contributing to two World Series championships in 2017 and 2022.
Known for his versatility and big-game performances, he transitioned primarily to third base while also playing shortstop early in his career.
After the 2024 season, he signed with the Boston Red Sox for 2025 before joining the Chicago Cubs for the 2026 season.
Throughout his career, Bregman has been praised for his work ethic, intelligence on the field, and ability to perform under pressure, including memorable moments in postseason play.
Accolades
Bregman has been selected to three All-Star Games (2018, 2019, and 2025), earning All-Star Game MVP honors in 2018.
He is a two-time World Series champion with the Astros (2017 and 2022).
Defensively, he won the Gold Glove Award in 2024 for his outstanding play at third base.
Offensively, he earned the Silver Slugger Award in 2019 and has led the American League in doubles (2018) while posting strong career numbers, including a batting average around .272, over 210 home runs, and more than 720 RBIs through his first decade in the majors.
Additional recognition includes being named to All-MLB teams and earning minor league accolades such as USA Today Minor League Player of the Year in 2016.
