Authorities identified all the victims who were on board a helicopter that crashed in Mosop, Nandi County.

The bodies of the victims were moved to the Moi Teaching Referral Hospital in Eldroret pending other procedures.

The accident involved a chopper with tail number 5Y-DSB belonging to media mogul SK Macharia.

Those on board were Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ngeno, the pilot George Were, forest ranger Amos Kipngetich Rotich, the MP’s cameraman Nick Kosgey, Robert Kipkoech Keter who was a teacher and a protocol officer at Narok County identified as Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono.

Witnesses said the chopper took off in misty conditions and visibility was poor. It hit two trees while flying low before crashing and burst into flames killing all on board.

President William Ruto led the nation in mourning the death of Ng’eno, describing him as a progressive and devoted leader who served his constituents with distinction.

In a condolence message issued on Saturday evening, the President said he had received the news of Ng’eno’s passing with “profound shock and deep sadness.”

“My friend, Mheshimiwa Ng’eno, was a progressive and devoted servant of the people who worked tirelessly on behalf of the residents of Emurua Dikirr, Narok County,” Ruto said.

He eulogised the late legislator as focused, vocal and fearless, noting that he stood firmly for justice and equity for all.

He added that Ng’eno would be remembered for the tangible development realised under his leadership and for his strong support of local talent, particularly in the music industry.

Ng’eno died in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, alongside other victims. Authorities are expected to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Funeral and memorial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family in due course.

Ng’eno was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament, having first been elected in 2013.

At the time of his death, he chaired the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works and was also a member of the Liaison Committee.

In the 12th Parliament, he served as a member of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

Under his leadership, the Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works Committee played a central role in the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024, which established a legal framework for the development and access to decent and affordable housing for Kenyans.

Born in 1972, Ng’eno began his education at Mogondo Primary School before proceeding to Maseno National School for his secondary studies. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Law from Kyiv TSN University in Ukraine.

He advanced his academic journey in Kenya, obtaining a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Laws degree from Mount Kenya University, and a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. In September 2025, he was admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
