16 Ambira Secondary School students caught on tape hurling insults at Education CS Amina Mohammed and her Interior counterpart Fred Matiang’i have been released.
This was after the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji failed to prefer charges against them. They are however expected to cooperate in police probe.
State Prosecutor David Okachi told Ukwala Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo that DPP Haji received their file on Monday morning and will only prefer charges against them when he sees fit.
The viral video also attracted President Uhuru Kenyatta’s attention who condemned their behavior.
“We will not and shall not entertain indiscipline and abuse from our young people. You must learn to respect your elders, as I talk to you today, those boys are where they should be in order for them to be disciplined,” the head of state said during this year’s Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) Patron’s Day.

Lawyer Nelson Havi offered to represent the minors at no cost terming a decision by the court to detain them as a transgression of justice.
“We have offered to act for the 8 Ambira High School boys. If you know the identities and contacts of their parents or guardians, please notify us ASAP. We cannot have a high handed executive decision to punish children and a more than willing Court assisting in the transgression,” Havi said on Twitter.
