Aneurin Henry Thomas Donald, born on 20 December 1996 in Swansea, Wales, is a professional cricketer known for his aggressive right-handed batting and occasional right-arm off-break bowling.
Nicknamed Nye, he has represented England at senior level in T20 Internationals after years in the domestic game.
He came through the Glamorgan academy system after learning the game at Gorseinon Cricket Club and has since played for Hampshire and Derbyshire.
His parents are Andrew and Jocelyn Donald, and he has strong family connections to Welsh cricket, including a great-uncle, Bernard Hedges, who played extensively for Glamorgan.
Siblings
Aneurin has one sibling, his brother Gafyn Donald.
Gafyn has long been associated with Gorseinon Cricket Club, the same club where Aneurin first developed his skills, and has continued to turn out for the club’s first XI.
The brothers grew up practising together at the club’s nets alongside their father, and Gafyn remains one of Aneurin’s most consistent supporters.

Career
Donald began his professional journey with Glamorgan, making his first-class debut in 2014 at the age of 17.
He progressed through the county’s academy and spent time at the Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy in Australia before establishing himself in the senior side.
In 2016 he produced a standout performance by scoring 234 off 136 balls against Derbyshire at Colwyn Bay, equalling the then world record for the fastest double century in first-class cricket.
He also represented England at Under-19 level, including the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, where he was noted for an innovative “scooping slap shot.”
Seeking greater opportunities for international recognition, Donald moved on loan to Hampshire in 2018 and joined them permanently the following year.
Injuries interrupted his progress there, and in 2023 he was loaned to Derbyshire before signing permanently.
At Derbyshire he has flourished particularly in T20 cricket, captaining the side and producing consistently high strike rates.
He has also featured in The Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets.
In September 2026 he earned his first senior England call-up and made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka, becoming one of the older batting debutants in the format in recent years and the first former Glamorgan player to represent England since Simon Jones in 2005.
Accolades
Donald’s most celebrated individual achievement remains his 234 against Derbyshire in 2016, which equalled the record for the fastest first-class double hundred at the time, reached in just 123 balls.
In limited-overs cricket he has set club and competition records, including the joint-fastest half-century in the T20 Blast (51 off 13 balls) and leading the 2026 Vitality Blast in sixes.
His sustained high strike rates in domestic T20 cricket, often exceeding 200 in recent seasons, were instrumental in securing his England selection.
Earlier recognition included selection for England Under-19s and shared captaincy duties at age-group level.
