Annerie Dercksen is a South African international cricketer known as a right-handed batting and right-arm medium-pace bowling all-rounder.
Born on 26 April 2001 in Beaufort West in the Western Cape, she grew up on a family farm in the rural Karoo region.
Her early years involved limited access to electricity and television in the first decade of her life, with outdoor play and family activities shaping her athletic development.
She pursued studies in teaching at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein while developing her cricket skills.
Dercksen represents South Africa across all formats and has also played domestic cricket for teams including South Western Districts and Free State.
Siblings
Annerie has one brother, Septimus.
The siblings are a year apart in age, with Annerie as the older of the two.
Growing up isolated on the farm with few other children around, the pair spent much of their time playing various sports together.
Rugby proved too physical for her and netball less appealing to him, so they settled on cricket as a shared activity that suited both.
He influenced her early involvement in the game through backyard sessions, and she has credited him with helping spark her interest.
Career
Dercksen’s path into formal cricket began casually. Near the end of primary school she stepped in for a boys’ team when a player fell ill, and the game stuck.

She progressed through provincial ranks, featuring for South Western Districts from the 2018/19 season and later for Free State before returning to South Western Districts.
Her international breakthrough came in January 2023 when she earned selection for a tri-nation series and made her T20I debut against the West Indies at Buffalo Park in East London.
She was included in South Africa’s squad for the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which the team hosted and reached the final as runners-up, though she did not feature in the playing XI at that stage.
In 2024 she expanded into the longer formats, making her ODI debut against India on 16 June and her Test debut against the same opposition on 28 June.
She contributed across formats that year, including notable middle-order batting and useful medium-pace bowling.
South Africa again reached the final of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE as runners-up.
Dercksen continued to feature regularly thereafter.
A standout moment arrived in May 2025 during a tri-nation series in Sri Lanka, when she scored her maiden ODI century – an aggressive 104 off 84 balls against Sri Lanka that included nine fours and five sixes.
She has also appeared in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025, where South Africa finished as runners-up, and has taken on increasing responsibility in the middle order and with the ball as an all-rounder.
Accolades
Dercksen’s rapid rise earned her the ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award for 2024, making her the first South African to claim the honour.
The recognition reflected her contributions across formats that year, including runs and wickets in T20Is, ODIs and Tests, as well as her role in South Africa’s run to the T20 World Cup final.
She has also received domestic recognition, including Women’s ODI Player of the Year honours from Cricket South Africa.
On the team front she holds runner-up medals from the 2023 and 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cups and the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, along with success at the 2023 African Games.
