Anthony Gill is an American professional basketball player playing as a power forward for the Washington Wizards in the NBA.

He attended the University of Virginia, where he had a notable college career; during his time at Virginia, he achieved a record field goal percentage of 58.2%, which highlighted his efficiency on the court.

Gill earned several honors during his college years, including being named to the All-ACC Third Team twice. Despite his impressive college performance, he went undrafted in the NBA draft.

However, he eventually found his way into the league and has been playing for the Washington Wizards since his NBA debut.

Anthony was born on October 17, 1992, in High Point, North Carolina, to Sandi Summers and Anthony Gill Sr.

He has three siblings, a brother named Daxton, and two sisters named Nichole and Kaytlyn.

Career

Gill played college basketball for both the University of South Carolina and the University of Virginia. At South Carolina, he started in 26 of 31 games during the 2011-2012 season.

After transferring to Virginia, he had a notable career, finishing with a record field goal percentage of 58.2% for the Cavaliers.

Gill was a Third-Team All-ACC honoree in both 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, and he was named to the All-ACC Defensive Team in 2014-2015.

His best season at Virginia was in 2015-2016, where he averaged 13.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

Gill went undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft. He initially signed with MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Germany but left due to a failed medical exam.

He then played for Yeşilgiresun Belediye in Turkey and later for Khimki in Russia from 2017 to 2020.

On December 1, 2020, Gill signed with the Washington Wizards, where he has remained as a role player. He signed additional two-year deals with the Wizards in July 2022 and July 2024.

In the NBA, Gill has averaged 3.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per game, contributing as a depth player for the Wizards.

Accolades

Gill has received several accolades throughout his basketball career, particularly during his time at the University of Virginia and in the NBA.

In college, Gill finished his career at UVA ranked first in field goal percentage at 58.2%. He was named to the All-ACC Third Team by both the media and coaches in 2015 and 2016.

Additionally, he earned a spot on the ACC All-Tournament First Team in 2016 and was recognized as a member of the ACC All-Defensive Team in 2015.

Gill was also named the MVP of the Barclays Center Classic in 2014 and was honored on the Corpus Christi Challenge All-Tournament Team in 2014.

In the NBA, Gill has been acknowledged for his contributions off the court as well.

He received the Washington Wizards’ Dr. E.B. Henderson Team Award for community service during the 2021-22 season and again in the 2023-24 season.
