Lawyer Assa Nyakundi Hospitalized After Son’s Fatal Shooting

Lawyer Assa Nyakundi who “accidentally” shot his 29 year old son in the chest on Sunday afternoon has been taken ill.

The city advocate is said to have developed shock symptoms while being held at Muthaiga Police Station. He was helping in investigations into his son’s death.

Mr Nyakundi, Standard reports was admitted at the Nairobi Hospital on Monday.
He was going to be arraigned in court today on a miscellaneous application for the prosecution to obtain more time to conclude investigations into the incident.

The lawyer who has been representing a number of high profile individuals including Nyeri Senior Magistrate Maisy Chesang, reported the shooting at Muthaiga Police Station.

He told the police that he and the deceased (Joseph) were going back to their Muthaiga North home from a church service at ICC Church at around 1 PM when he tried to retrieve his pistol from a pouch in the car to a holster. It is then that he discharged a bullet that hit his son in the chest.

“The said firearm loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm bullets and the m/v have been kept as exhibits,” said the police.

He drove him to the Aga Khan hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
