COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli is unhappy about Kenya Airways (KQ) CEO, Sebastian Mikosz’s latest attempt to hire five new executives from his home country, Poland.

The five, according to Business Daily are: Monika Kietyka-Michna, Edyta Kijewska-Teny, Magdalena Serwach, Marcin Celejewski and Micha Mierciak.

KQ employees working under the former bosses are said to be afraid for their jobs as a ‘shake up looms.’

Atwoli expressed his disapproval saying that the national carrier should prioritize the Kenyan people’s interests.

”Even if Kenyan banks have mobilised funds to save the airline, the funds come from taxpayers,” read the statement in part.

He asked the current boss to make sure the executive promoted ‘Brand Kenya.’

”Kenya Airways, being a national carrier and a major brand promoter of our country, should also have the face of Kenya in its diversified executive.”

He argued that the move would cause tension among its staff.

”It is totally unacceptable for the CEO to hire managers from his former employer LOT Polish Airlines. Mikosz must read the legal requirements of qualifications and nationalities of who qualifies to be employed by Kenya Airways,” he continued.

The secretary general noted that the union would not allow Mikosz hire personnel from beyond East Africa.
