Police are apparently looking for Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja after he failed to record his statement on Sunday evening. The senator was supposed to record a statement at Kilimani Police Station before close of business yesterday to facilitate his arraignment today. Sakaja, who chairs the Senate ad hoc committee on Covid-19, was arrested on Saturday morning at a nightclub in Kilimani area. Kenya has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 positive cases since the confirmation of the index case in March. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced 688 newly detected infections after testing a 4,522 sample size. The total number of infections now stands at 12,750. Of the new infections, 425 were males while 263 were females. The youngest case was a 7 month old infant and the oldest a 95 year old. Citizen TV actor Charles Bukeko but best known by his character on the popular “Papa Shirandula” show has died. The renowned actor passed on at the Karen Hospital while undergoing treatment. According to the Star, the deceased’s brother-in-law Rorland Wanyama confirmed his passing. The actor collapsed at the Karen Hospital parking and passed on shortly after. An Asian man accused of extorting locals and posing as a police officer was on Friday arrested by DCI detectives. Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja was on Saturday morning arrested alongside three others for flouting COVID-19 rules. The senator spent the night at Kilimani Police Station after being caught up with at Ladies Lounge along Dennis Pritt Road. Police Officers based at Vigilance House will starting Friday undergo mandatory Covid-19 testing. In a memo, deputy Inspector General (IG) Joseph Ndirangu instructed all leaders to provide names of officers working under them. “Covid-19 tests, this will be carried out tomorrow morning, Friday 17/7/2020 at 1000 hrs here in Vigilance House conference room,” the memo read. Confirmed cases of Coronavirus on Friday rose to 12,062 after 389 others tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. Speaking from Murang’a county, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that the newly detected infections were from a 3,545 sample size. Cumulatively, Kenya has tested 233,641 samples. Nairobi County assembly representatives are threatening to take to the streets over delayed salaries. The MCAs are yet to receive their June salaries over a row involving speaker Beatrice Elachi and clerk Jacob Ngwele. Director of public prosecutions (DPP) has applied to drop murder charges against Tecra Muigai’s lover Omar Lali. The DPP has instead requested for an inquest into her death. Lali, 52, was on Monday charged with the murder of the Keroche Breweries heiress. He was arraigned on Tuesday where he was said to have committed the crime on the night of 22nd and 23rd April 2020 at Shela Village, Lamu. Coronavirus cases on Thursday jumped to 11,673 after 421 new infections were confirmed. Speaking in Nakuru, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that the newly detected infections were from a 3,895 sample size. 409 of the new infections are Kenyans while 12 are foreigners. Residents of Jacaranda Gardens Estate along Kamiti Road, Nairobi County have been advised to self-isolate for 14 days. This was after the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 response team in Roysambu sub-county confirmed cases of Coronavirus. In the new measures as announced by Transport CS James Macharia, matatus will be allowed to ferry more passengers.
