The family of a 21-year-old woman who died in Saudi Arabia last year claims she was tortured. Beatrice Waruguru’s remains arrived on Wednesday, months after her demise. The family alleged the deceased had injuries hence their hesitation to sign documents at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) leading to a five hour stand-off. They did, however, accept Waruguru’s remains at around 6pm after which they were taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home along Thika Road. Former Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has threatened to leave the Kenya Kwanza Alliance hours after the alliance’s power-sharing agreement leaked. A Mombasa magistrate on Wednesday halted a hearing as he called for a fundraiser to raise money for a couple charged with stealing a bale of wheat flour. Principal magistrate Vincent Adet kicked off the “harambee” with his Sh1,000 contribution. Rwanda has prohibited the import of Kenyan-made chicken-flavored Indomie brand noodles, citing health concerns. The Rwanda Food and Drug Authority has begun an investigation into this food brand, while also ordering importers to stop distribution. “While the inspection continues all distributors and retailers in possession of the above-mentioned products are requested to stop distribution and quarantine all quantities in their stores until the investigation is concluded,” The Times of Rwanda reported on Sunday. Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed traded barbs on Twitter over the Nairobi gubernatorial campaign. George Owino who had expressed interest in the West Ugenya ward seat on a Movement for Growth and Democracy (MDG) ticket, was apparently last seen on Wednesday, May 4. Documents tabled by Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi in Parliament alleging that Deputy President William Ruto had grabbed land have been thrown out. Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has thrown out an application by Maendeleo Chap Chap seeking to exit the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance. The court on Tuesday said the Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua-led entity should have sought alternative internal dispute resolution mechanisms before taking the legal route. Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has gone to court to contest the electoral commission’s decision to prevent civil officials from being picked as running mates in the upcoming elections. A woman alleged to have been buried in a grave that former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko visited on Friday is still alive. On Saturday, social media was awash with claims that the Mombasa gubernatorial candidate had visited the gravesite for political mileage.
