Registrar of political parties has urged rival Ford Kenya factions to resolve their dispute internally. This was after a section of the party members led by Secretary-General Esseli Simiyu met last week and voted to remove Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as party leader. A statue of the late King Leopold II was on Tuesday brought down in the Belgian port city of Antwerp. This was following #BlackLivesMatter protests in the country that were awakened by the death of an African-American man George Floyd in the hands of the police. The statue was removed after protesters doused it with paint. Kenya’s largest telecommunications company Safaricom has closed four shops to allow sanitization and fumigation. In a statement, the company said the closure is proactive and preventative measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of its staff and customers. The affected shops are; Nyali and Rex House both in Mombasa, Thika and Lavington Mall. “Kenya and the rest of the world still contending with the health risk posed to our population by the Covid-19 pandemic,” the statement reads in part. Nairobi County assembly majority leader Abdi Guyo has been suspended for a year after missing 11 consecutive plenary sittings. A Select Committee on Powers and Privileges found that the Spring Valley Matopeni Ward Rep missed the said sittings between January and March this year. According to the committee, Guyo did not give reasons as to why he missed the sessions. Instead he dismissed the committee as a “Kangaroo court”. Chief Justice David Maraga on Monday called out President Uhuru Kenyatta over what he termed as refusal to swear in 41 judges as proposed by the JSC in 2019. Addressing the nation from State House, Nairobi, the head of state extended the cessation of movement order in Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera counties by another 30 days. Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was on Friday night involved in a road accident along Eldoret-Kapsabet road. The vocal lawmaker is said to have been driving from Nandi to his Eldoret home at around 10 pm when the accident occurred. Cases Of COVID-19 have risen to 2,474 after 134 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. Addressing reporters at Afya House during the daily COVID-19 briefing, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said that the 134 infections were detected after testing a 3,177 sample size. So far, Kenya has tested 90,875 samples. CAS Mwangangi also noted that 131 of the new cases are Kenyans while 3 are foreigners. Age-wise, the youngest case today is a 6 year old and the oldest 70.
