Kenya has confirmed 9 more cases of coronavirus, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi has said. Addressing reporters at Afya House, Ms Mwangangi noted that the 9 cases were among 234 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Further, she said, the government is tracking 1668 close contacts of the positive cases. The government has pledged to employ at least 1000 health workers. Pay Tv providers have been ordered to allow access to Free To Air channels on their decoders. Communications Authority (CA) director general Mercy Wanjau in a letter cited Gotv which does not allow FTA channels transmitted from PANG, Signet, Bamba and ADN. The number of confirmed cases has risen to 50, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has announced. Addressing reporters at Afya House, the CS noted that Nairobi County leads with 34 cases, followed by Kilifi (6), Mombasa (3). A man who died at Kangundo Hospital on Sunday did not suffer from coronavirus, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KeMRI) results have confirmed. The 21 year old was reported to have had COVID-19 like symptoms. But according to Machakos governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, the deceased had a bacterial infection. Medics who came into contact with the country’s first COVID-19 fatality have been quarantined. According to the Star, Engineer Maurice Khisa Namiinda did not reveal his travel history when he first visited the hospital. On his first visit, the deceased had a mild fever.
