A police officer shot and wounded two of his colleagues before turning gun on himself during a General Service Unit (GSU) change over exercise. The officer stationed at Chepchoina camp in Endebess Sub-county died instantly from his bullet wounds. His two coworkers; Benard Saitoti Salunya and Evans Kioko Muli, were rushed to the hospital for treatment after suffering bullet wounds to the face. Struggling Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) has failed to pay Sh984.3 million in staff retirement benefits. According to Auditor General Nancy Gathungu’s report for the fiscal year ended June 2020, the State broadcaster has failed to settle its dues. “Management attributed the delay to remit the deduction to its inability to settle its obligations as and when they fall due,” the report reads in part. Bata Shoe Kenya has filed a lawsuit against an employment agency, seeking a Sh32.5 million refund. The shoe maker alleges that the firm inflated workers’ wages through inflated bills. Bata claims in court documents that between January 2017 and February 2019, H.R. Strategic Partners Ltd inflated wages. Bata Shoe apparently engaged the services of an employment recruitment agency to provide manpower. A Kenyan man has been found guilty of the murder of an 81-year-old woman in the United States of America, where he was accused of killing a dozen elderly ladies. According to the Dallas Morning News, a Dallas County jury took 45 minutes to find Billy Chemirmir, 49, guilty of the murder of Lu Thi Harris. A scheme established by the Judiciary and the Prisons services will see an estimated 5,000 petty offenders freed from jail in the coming months in order to decongest the correctional facilities, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has said. An appeal has been lodged by a man sentenced to death in for stealing a presidential escort car. On April 13, Aggrey Odhiambo Achieng was sentenced to death for stealing Chief Inspector of Police David Machui’s BMW 735 in August 2014 in Utawala, Nairobi. The vehicle was valued at Sh1.2 million. Achieng’s lawyer, Moses Angaya, submitted an appeal with the court on Monday, explaining his reasons for appealing the sentence. A British court has found that a Kenyan boy whose body was discovered floating in a river in Bridgend, United Kingdom, two years ago was murdered by his mother and stepfather. The body of Baby Logan Mwangi, whose Kenyan father Benjamin Mwangi works as a bookmaker in the UK, was discovered in the Ogmore River in Bridgend, England, towards the end of July 2020. A serial fraudster is in custody after defrauding a Nairobi-based businessman Sh11 million. Martin Shiamia Matchel who has several cases of fraud pending in various courts, is said to have swindled a man only identified as Mohamed under the guise of a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) agent. Presidential candidates have until May 16 to submit names of their running mates, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said. The IEBC and political parties agreed to a two-week extension from the original deadline of April 28.
