The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on Wednesday arrested former Siaya county officials for misappropriation of funds. They are; former Siaya County Secretary Kephas Marube, former Director Supply Chain Tobias Oloo and three proprietors of Mu-Salem Ltd. Also facing charges are Mu-Salem directors; Arystirico Muhanda, James Okware Emondo and Felix Matibai. They are said to have embezzled Sh22.5 million from the county coffers. A section of Ngong Forest near Karinde, is on fire. Sources indicate that the fire brigade is at the scene of incident trying to contain the fire that started about an hour ago. Mt Kenya and Aberdare national parks were earlier on in the month on fire where at least 100,000 and 700 hectares of vegetation, respectively, were destroyed. Kenya Wildlife Service Chief Warden Bajila Kofa said the fire at the Aberdares was caused by honey gatherers and community activities, with residents burning grass to kill ticks. On Sunday, a 4.8 magnitude quake experienced in various parts of the country was blamed for a cracked Mai-Mahiu-Naivasha Road near Fai Amarillo factory. Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) blamed the fault line on the tremor and cautioned motorists against using the road. Private vehicle operators were advised to use the main Kamandura – Limuru – Kinungi – Naivasha Highway. Nairobi county Health department has alerted referral hospitals of a cholera outbreak confirmed on Thursday. Lucia Koyio, county health director on Friday directed referral hospitals to reactivate their treatment units to prevent further spread of the disease. “In this regard, I am requesting all referral hospitals to reactivate their cholera treatment units to prevent the spread of the disease,” a statement read in part. Last week a gunman opened fire at two mosques in New Zealand killing 50 people. On Friday however, women across New Zealand stood with the Muslims by wearing headscarves.
