Speaking from Jogoo House, Inspector General Joseph Boinnet has confirmed the attack as a suspected terror attack, which started at 3 o’clock when a group of unknown assailants attacked the Dusit complex. Boinnet has assured that security response is still ongoing and the area has been cordoned off. Evacuation has been made and is still ongoing. Al Shabaab extremists have taken responsibility for the Dusit D2 attack. Speaking to Al Jazeera, the group’s spokesperson confirmed conducting an operation in the country’s capital. “We are currently conducting an operation in Nairobi,” the spokesperson is quoted by Al Jazeera. So far one person has been confirmed dead after sustaining a chest injury and others sustaining injuries. Reports indicate that there are at least three attackers in the premises. A police report emerged revealing that Professor Abel Mugenda may have jumped to his death, despite reports saying that he died after a short illness. Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale is facing backlash from Ford Kenya party members who have planned to take disciplinary actions against him for backing Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid. Three of the four suspects accused of being behind the 2013 Westgate Mall terror attack have a case to answer, a court ruled on Monday. Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi did however free Adan Dheg but put on defense Ahmed Abdi, Liban Omar and Hussein Mustafa. The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) has condemned the Daily Nation for posting an article that conveyed fake news to its readers. The article dated 11th January 2019, titled “IEBC Bosses Fail To Agree On By-Election Dates”, states that the commissioners met on Monday 7 January, 2019 but failed to agree on a set date for by-elections. Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Patrick Njoroge walked down the streets of Nairobi on Saturday to interact with small scale traders on how they were fairing after the implementation of the new presumptive tax. In an effort to increase revenue collection, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) introduced presumptive taxes which is added to traders’ business permits or license fees.
