The National Land Commission (NLC) has maintained that the land on which Airgate Mall, formerly Taj Mall sits is owned by the government. Deputy President William Ruto carried with him Sh10 million in cash during a goat auction in Kajiado county meant to help 5,000 families enroll into the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). The DP bought 700 goats for President Uhuru Kenyatta and another 700 for himself on Monday. Each goat went for at least Sh7,000. Kenya’s biggest mobile service provider Safaricom is facing a Ksh449 million fine which is a 0.2 percent of its gross revenue for the last financial year. Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) on Monday said the fine was because the telco failed to connect smaller firms, allegations Safaricom has denied. On Friday, the telco’s chief executive Bob Collymore said that the firm is not abusing its dominance in the market and wants the regulator to remove a proposal regulating consumer prices. Shot former Garissa county finance minister Idriss Mukhtar’s family is said to have met with Governor Ali Korane’s family on Sunday to discuss compensation for the latter. The two sides met to discuss Maslaha, pay for the victim’s family by the murderer’s family according to the Muslim religion. John Magufuli’s government has banned civil servants from using social media during working hours. They will only access the internet after 3.30 PM. In a circular by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President in charge of Public Service Management, Dr Florian Ndumbaro said that the move was triggered by complaints by members of the public about slow delivery of services. Some employees are accused of being preoccupied with social media sites during working hours. David Mwai, the man who was captured on CCTV footage shooting at former Garissa minister Idriss Mukhtar in Kileleshwa hang himself using his jacket lining, Police spokesperson Charles Owino has said. Eight people have died after a Saturday morning fire razed down structures at Silanga area, Kibra Constituency. Rescue operations are underway but cause of fire still unknown.
