Kisumu Girls High School has been closed indefinitely following an overnight riot. The students are said to have destroyed property of unknown value as they accused the principal of being overbearing. The girls also protested over the scrapping of entertainment, poor diet and the lack of freedom. The unruly students reportedly broke windows at the administration block and those of the school headmistress’ house. Police officers were called in after the school management failed to reach a common ground with the students. The students were on Monday morning sent home till a later date. Mobile network provider, Safaricom has announced new M-Pesa tariffs that will see their customers dig deeper into their pockets. The hiked charges, which are line with the Finance Bill, 2018 and the Provisional Collection of Taxes and Duties Act, take effect on July 1, 2018. Reading the budget, CS National Treasury Henry Rotich noted that customers would be charged 12 percent up from 10 percent of every money transfer. Money transfers of between Sh.1-100 remains free but have been limited to three transactions per day. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i while appearing before a Joint Parliamentary Committee denied having vested interests in the sugar importation business. The CS was on the spot following his announcement that sugar was laced with mercury, reports that KEBS Managing Director Charles Ongwae denied. Thousands of children have fallen prey to the gaming machines that have flooded the Kenyan market especially the rural areas. The machines are imported from China and are assembled in downtown Nairobi and the biggest markets are in Nakuru, Mombasa, Kericho and Kisumu. Singer Chrispin Mwangale alias Big Pin has rubbished reports that he suffered a heart attack. The singer reportedly collapsed in his Hallmark Offices on Monday 18 June, 2018 and was rushed to the Aga Khan Hospital where he was admitted for three days. In an interview with one of the dailies, the singer says that he was diagnosed with a condition known as Angina. Russell Dominic Peters, a Canadian stand-up comedian and actor of Anglo-Indian descent has called out Daily Show host, Trevor Noah for ‘stealing’ his jokes. Barely hours before Gikomba fire was completely extinguished, Korogocho market was in flames as fire raged through the market on Thursday night. Traders were left counting losses after on Friday morning after goods of undetermined value were reduced to ashes. The incident reportedly started at  11 PM and the cause of the fire is yet to be established. Fire at the market in was contained by the Nairobi County Council fire brigade and the residents of Korogocho. Kiambu Senator Paul Kimani Njoroge alias Wamatangi has been sued by his former domestic worker, Winfred Wangui Kimani for neglecting their daughter. The legislator, Winfred said, defiled her in his home on July 18 at around noon after which she conceived and gave birth to their daughter, Lisa Wanjiku, on April 23, 2007.
