Contraband products worth over Sh.1.2 billion will be destroyed next week, CS Interior Fred Matiang’i has told a Joint Parliamentary Committee. A Chinese firm has won a Ksh2 billion tender for the construction of a 60km road in Kenya’s North Rift region which will extend to South Sudan. China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation has been contracted to undertake the construction of the road, funded by the national government. On Tuesday, Ferdinand Wanyonyi, a lawmaker in Kwanza Constituency in Trans Nzoia County praised the project, which he said will transform the lives of the local farmers. A new bill aimed at reforming the tea sector and give farmers more say in decision making has been tabled in Parliament by Gem Mp Elisha Odhiambo. In the bill, Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) will be reverted to its old status as the industry regulator if the bill sails through. Students of Kenyatta University are complaining of unqualified lecturers being allowed to teach on topics that they have neither studied for nor have a proper understanding of. A man found guilty of impersonating Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet has died in prison. John Kibowen Cheboiwo died at the Industrial Area Prison on June 15, 2018 under unclear circumstances. The Computer Science graduate is said to have created Facebook accounts impersonating Boinnet and former DCI boss Ndegwa Muhoro.
