Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director, Catherine Mturi-Wairi was on Wednesday sent on compulsory leave during the Board’s 345th Special Meeting. Ms Wairi was suspended due to incompetence. The board noted that the port of Mombasa has been experiencing a break down of systems of cargo evacuation for the past seven days. The break down of systems has led to serious systems congestion of the port, one of the board members, Micheal Maina divulged. Telkom on Wednesday announced a further expansion of its 4G-network in Nairobi and its environs, a strategic part of the telco’s larger network modernization programme. The expansion will be in Athi River, Syokimau, Kitengela, Thika, Kiambu town, Kikuyu town, Kiserian and Ngong. Despite the recent irregular purchase and sale of maize and fertilizer by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), 45000 bags of maize have been imported into the country from Uganda in the last week only, oblivious to the cries of local producers. It still remains unclear why large volumes are being imported while local traders have had their cereals at the board’s stores in stock for a while now. Kenya’s leading mobile network operator Safaricom on Wednesday morning blocked the Kenya Police Service (PoliceKE) on Twitter. This was after a Twitter user, Gathigi highlighted an ordeal where someone was robbed in broad daylight along Kenyatta Avenue.
