At least 60 people have lost their lives on Kenyan roads since the year began, police have said. National Traffic Commandant Mary Omari said pedestrians and boda boda operators formed a majority of the fatalities witnessed since January 1, 2022. According to Omari, more than 200 people have suffered grave injuries for the road accidents. The traffic commandant called on Kenyans to exercise caution as schools re-open this week. “In two days we have lost 18 pedestrians and 15 boda boda riders and the figures seem to be increasing,” she said. Police in Laare, Meru County have seized 25 motorcycles believed to have been stolen in an inter-county syndicate. During the bust, four suspects were arrested. Police suspect the relatively new motorcycles were stolen in Isiolo, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Kitui. They were apparently going to be transported to various areas for sale. Confirming the incident was Igembe North Police Commander Mbatian Kantai who said they received information from a resident about the sale of second-hand motorcycles. Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has rebranded a building she had donated to serve as the party’s county office. The county MP had branded the building which is located in Kerugoya with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party yellow and green colours, logo and slogan. The building has since been repainted in white colour. The building previously served as the Citizens’ Convectional Party (CCP) county headquarters. An employee was on Monday charged for assaulting her employer for allegedly forcing her to sign a document after termination of employment. A Dutch national has been arrested and deported after smuggling dozens of men, women and children to Europe. 53-year-old John Habeta has been on the Netherlands Wanted list since 2017. He was apprehended by Kenyan authorities on December 16 and remained in custody until Christmas Day when he was deported. A 73-year-old man is in custody after killing his son in Cherangany’s Chepsiro location, Trans-Nzoia County. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has died at the age of 90, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed. Tutu, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and veteran of South Africa’s struggle against white minority, passed on on Sunday. Fully vaccinated individuals will now get an additional dose of either Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Pfizer vaccine six months after completion of the primary series.
