Beware of the return of the ‘one ring’ international call scam or as it is commonly known ‘Wangiri Scam’, Communications Authority (CA) has advised. Kenyans have in the recent weeks been receiving calls from foreign countries only to call back and sometimes listen to an automated message or are redirected to premium numbers. “In exercise of its consumer protection mandate in the ICT sector, CA advises the public to beware of the scam. Residents of Solai have been left counting losses from Wednesday night after tragedy hit when Patel Dam in Solai, Subukia burst its banks sweeping away property and submerging houses and people under the mud. The dam, owned by a large-scale irrigation farmer, Mansukul Patel, is said to have burst due to high volumes of water. Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu has sacked the county’s Water, Environment and Natural Resources CEC John Mugwe who he says is a ‘Facebook addict.’ Waititu had in April directed that the sacked CEC goes on leave for 30 working days because he failed to discharge his mandate as is required. Waititu is said to have accused Mugwe of taking too many pictures and posting them on Facebook. “I have observed that you are neither keen on delivering on your responsibilities nor making service delivery to the people of Kiambu; your immediate focus,” a letter dated 8 May reads. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) haS started the demolition of the Westlands Curio Shops opposite the Sarit Center in order to pave way for the expansion of the Lower Kabete and Peponi Roads. Nairobi county government had stated that the curio triangle market was built on a road reserve. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is a 24 hour free WI-FI network, starting Wednesday, 9 May, 2018. The airport previously offered 15 minutes of free WI-FI after which users were subjected to pay a fee to use the service. The Ministry of Water has formed a task force that will look into why Ndakaini dam water levels are still low despite of the heavy rains. Speaking in Murang’a county, Principal Secretary for Water Joseph Irungu said that the team will hand in their findings in a record 60 days. The team, led by Engineer Samuel Halima will have representatives from the water Ministry, Nairobi and Muranga Counties, Athi Water and Sewerage Company, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company among other stakeholders. Oppo Kenya Chief Executive Officer (CEO) identified as Andrew Peng has been arrested after being on the spotlight last week for all the wrong reasons under the hashtag #ShameOnOppoKenya and #InvestigateOppoKenya.
