Mount Kenya University (MKU) has closed down its Thika Campus following political uncertainty in the country and tension in the institution. The students have protested against the institution’s system and management. ”Following consultation and assessment of the current situation, the university senate has resolved to suspend learning and University operations indefinitely at Thika campus,” read a memo dated 9 October. The students are required to leave the premises by noon. Three people have been injured during the NASA anti-IEBC demonstrations happening in Nairobi outside the IEBC offices. Two have been involved in a hit and run where they are said to have knocked down by a Toyota Prado KBQ 609G. The other protester has allegedly been shot in the leg by the police as he was trying to snatch a phone from a motorist. The High Court on Monday dismissed a case seeking to bar the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners from conducting the October 26 presidential polls. Justice John Mativo while delivering the ruling said that the ‘case lacked legal basis, unmerited and the orders sought cannot be issued.’ “In view of my determination of the above issues and finding that the petition is unmerited, I find that there is no legal basis for the court to grant the reliefs sought,” Justice Mativo said. Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria has said that the Nairobi Business Community will starting Monday counter NASA’s anti-IEBC protests ‘owing to accelerated risks and threats to our business interests.’ The meetings, the legislator said would start today at 1 pm outside the IEBC headquarters located at the Anniversary Towers. The former Mombasa County Senator during a Jubilee rally at the Serani grounds vowed to back President Uhuru Kenyatta in the coming presidential polls scheduled for 26 October, 2017. A car on Saturday rammed into the Safaricom Customer Care outlet along the busy Moi Avenue street. Earlier reports indicated that the outlet could have been vandalized by supposed NASA supporters but the telco firm says it was an ‘accident.’ No casualties have been reported. National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said that the coalition is okay with Dubai based Al Ghurair firm and IT company OT Morpho’s involvement in the repeat poll as long as IEBC gets rid of commission’s secretariat and CEO Ezra Chiloba. Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege is in mourning after losing her mother, Susan Wairimu on Thursday. The deceased was 68 years old when she met her untimely death following a road accident along the Kangari-Kandara road. She was in the company of her husband, Chege Mutema who sustained severe injuries but has been admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital. Mombasa High Court Judge Erick Ogola on Thursday protected Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho from being investigated, arrested or prosecuted over fake academic papers. In May, the governor was under investigation for forging a KCSE results slip that enabled him pursue a degree course at the University of Nairobi. There was drama at the Naivasha GK prison on Thursday morning after an inmate attacked and killed his cellmate with a spoon. The two are said to have fought over another man in the same facility. “The suspect had an illegal affair with another inmate in that cell.
