The murder trial of Jowie Irungu and Jacque Maribe has been adjourned following the abduction of lawyer Hassan Nandwa two weeks ago. Nandwa is the advocate of Jowie who is accused of killing businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018. Trial judge Grace Nzioka scrapped all the dates allocated to the matter due to the advocate’s ill health. Seven Kamiti Maximum Prison wardens have been arrested following the escape of three convicts serving jail terms over terrorism-related crimes. Speaking on Monday, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said the escape was as a result of laxity and incompetence. A Nairobi court has released FKF President Nick Mwendwa on a Sh4 million cash bail or Sh7 million bond with two sureties. The court on Monday barred Mwendwa from accessing the FKF offices or interfering with workers. Police have filed a miscellaneous application to hold embattled Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa for 14 days to complete investigations. The Director of Criminal Investigations are seeking orders to detain Mwendwa for 14 days at Gigiri Police Station. The University of Nairobi (UoN) and Kenyatta University have a combined Sh4.3 billion financial deficit, Treasury revealed to Parliament last week. UoN had a deficit of Sh2.17 billion in the year to June, up from Sh1.62 billion the previous year. In the year ended June, KU’s deficit hit Sh2.13 billion up from Sh1.3 billion the year earlier. Fuel prices will remain unchanged in the month of November even as crude oil costs soar. The prices of super petrol, diesel and kerosene will remain unchanged until December 14 when the next review is due. Kenya has recorded 21 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 254,297, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has confirmed. The CS on Sunday said that the new infections are from a sample size of 2,709 recording a positivity rate of 0.8 per cent. The cumulative tests stand at 2,770,062. British aristocrat Lord Nicholas Monson, whose son died in police custody in Diani nine years ago, is in Kenya. Monson’s son, Alexander, had been arrested by officers from Diani police station at a nightclub on May 18, 2012. He died a day later. The then 28-year-old was suspected of smoking bhang. Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir on Saturday evening lost four staff members in a tragic road accident. Lawyer Miguna Miguna’s return to Kenya is uncertain after a High Court on Friday declined to lift the red alerts issued by the government. A couple is in custody after swindling a city based management consultant of Sh11 million in a diamond scam. Zachariah Peter Mboya and Redempta Musyoka were nabbed by Crime Research (CRIB) and Serious crime detectives who also discovered Sh19 million in fake dollars.
